KSSS-CARITAS SWISS-Tsunami Rehabilitation
Aim
To facilitate socio-economic development of 4500 families of the 5 Tsunami affected coastal villages.
Activities
- Strengthening the Basic Christian Communities.
- Strengthening the Village Development Council.
- Formation of Women’s Groups.
- Motivating them to take up Income Generation activities.
- Providing financial assistance to minority schools.
- Providing fishing tackles including fishing boats to affected people.
- Financial assistance to share croppers.
- Providing permenent House
Achievements

Trainings for Basic Christian Communities (BCC) were conducted at three levels - BCC members, BCC office bearers and the youth. A total number of 119 training programmes on topics on leadership, non-formal education, health and hygiene, group dynamism, maintenance of books of account, etc.,

Women's day was celebrated with support of the respective sangams. Seminar was organized in the five villages on women's education and social transformation.

Financial assistance to the extent of Rs. 8,28,000/- was provided to 9 teachers in St.Judes Pallam, 6 teachers in St. Michael Higher Secondary School Kodimunai, one teacher in Manakudy Primary School.

201 beneficiaries belonging to kodimunai and Mel Midalam Villages were given Life Jacket and 20 beneficiaries of Pallm village were provided fish nets.

420 share croppers were provided loan assistance of Rs. 35,000/- each for taking up income generating activities, education and house repairs.

The beneficiaries contributed 10% to the village development. Further 62 handicapped beneficiaries were given financial assistance to setup service and business establishments.

A total number of 530 houses were constructed and delivered to 530 beneficiaries including 15 widows.

In Manakudy and Pallam villages 13 women are engaged in manufacturing detergent powder, 11 women on sale of saris and readymade garments, another woman cleaning powder, 5 women provision stores, 6 women preparing eatables including 2 pickle units.
